Get to know Tibet!

Tibet ist vielen Leuten ein Begriff, mit welchem der 14. Dalai Lama oder die Himalayakette in Verbindung gesetzt wird. An diesem halbtägigen Event bringen Ihnen 5 Mitglieder von V-TAG (Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Tibethaus verschiedene Aspekte Tibets und dessen Kultur näher. Thema der Vorträge wird einerseits die Geschichte Tibets von der Frühzeit bis in die Moderne sowie die Rolle der Dalai Lamas in der tibetischen Politik sein. Andererseits werden Ihnen die aktuelle, sehr kritische Situation um Umwelt und Ausübung der Religionsfreiheit in Tibet vorgestellt. Einen Blick «ausserhalb» des Gebiets Tibet wird Ihnen schliesslich eine Präsentation über das System und die Funktionen der tibetischen Exilregierung mit Sitz in Dharamsala (Nordindien) erlauben, welche für den tibetischen Selbstbestimmungskampf zentral ist.

Many people associate Tibet with the 14th Dalai Lama or the Himalayan chain. At this half-day event, 5 members of V-TAG (Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group) in cooperation with the Tibet House will introduce you to various aspects of Tibet and its culture. The presentations will cover the history of Tibet from early times to modern times and the role of the Dalai Lamas in Tibetan politics. On the other hand, you will be introduced to the current, very critical situation regarding the environment and the exercise of religious freedom in Tibet. Finally, a presentation on the system and functions of the Tibetan government-in-exile based in Dharamsala (northern India), which is central to the Tibetan struggle for self-determination, will give you a look “outside” the Tibetan region.
